2005年，中国订购了120架波音飞机。波音预测，中国在未来20年将需要超过2600架新飞机，成为仅次于美国的全球第二大航空市场。
这些飞机将用于支持中国GDP的快速发展，满足中国人在生活水平提高后的旅行之梦。令我自豪的是，波音早已作为中国航空业的一员，帮助人们实现自由飞翔的梦想。
凯文·科斯特纳主演的《梦幻成真》是我最喜欢的体育电影之一。主要情节讲的是美国爱荷华州的一位农夫在玉米地里听到一个声音对他说：“欲引凤，先筑巢！”他把这句话当成上天让他在地里建造一个棒球场的启示，于是他照办了，结果梦想成真，迎来了他狂热崇拜的芝加哥白袜队。
上个世纪70年代，当中国订购10架波音707、波音与中国开始“携手合作”的时候，我也听到了这个声音。30多年以来，我们不仅努力建造出世界上最好的飞机来满足中国航空业的需要，并且在中国投资了上亿美元，与中国的航空公司和管理部门结成合作伙伴关系，向中国提供空中交通管理、精密导航、精益生产等领域的尖端技术，同时还引进了高管培训、航空服务和其它项目，帮助中国打造出一个安全、高效、盈利、先进的航空系统。
此外，波音还大力推动中国航空业提高技能、获得认证、加入世界航空和供应商网络。中国在波音的全部机型项目中都担负着日益复杂而重大的责任，包括737、747、767、777和全新的787。中国已经成为世界上第一家全新的747-400波音改装货机中心，这款飞机的很多部件都在中国制造。改装好的货机也在中国进行测试和认证，并在中国交付，这在美国本土之外尚属首次。
波音与中国共建航空事业，我们当年的心愿已经实现。今天，中国已经拥有强劲而高速发展的航空业，而波音也成为中国的老朋友和最密切的航空合作伙伴。在前进的道路上，波音将继续与中国携手合作，提高生产能力和技术水平，共同规划未来，确保更大的成功。

cording to Boeing s projection, China will require over 2,600 new airplanes in the next 20 years, making China the largest aviation market outside the U.S.
China needs all those new airplanes to support its fast GDP growth and meet the needs of millions of Chinese with new economic freedom and traveling dreams. I am so proud that Boeing has been an integral part of the Chinese aviation industry that helps people realize their freedom and dreams today.
One of my favorite sports movies is Field of Dreams, starring Kevin Kostner. An Iowa farmer hears a voice in his corn field tell him, If you build it, they will come? interprets it as a command to build a baseball diamond in his fields; he does, and the Chicago White Sox come.
I heard that voice in the early 1970 s when China ordered 10 Boeing 707s and our Working Together initiative just got started. Over the course of more than 30 years, we have not only built the world's best airplanes for Chinas aviation needs, but also have invested millions of dollars and partnered with Chinas airlines and regulatory authority to help ensure a safe, efficient, profitable, advanced Chinese aviation system with state-of-the-art technologies in ATM, precision navigation, lean manufacturing, executive development and training, aviation services and other projects.
Boeing has also helped Chinese aviation industry develop skills, achieve certification, and join the world aviation and supplier network. China has an increasingly sophisticated and expanding role in all of Boeing airplanes, the 737, 747, 767, 777 and the all new 787. China is the first key center for the new 747-400 Boeing Converted Freighter - with many parts built in China, test, certification in China, and delivery from China.
Together, we have built it, and our mutual wishes have come true. China now has a robust and fast-growing aviation sector. And Boeing has become Chinas old friend and preferred aviation partner. Going forward, Boeing and China will continue working together on enhancing capacity and capabilities, and formulate joint processes to ensure future success.
